Hey everyone,
We’re thrilled to announce the release of Karakeep 0.26! A huge thanks to the 20 contributors and their 95 commits that made this happen. For those new to Karakeep, it’s a bookmark manager that makes saving and finding anything you see online super easy.
What’s New in 0.26?
This release is packed with features you’ve been asking for, including usage stats, a revamped reader mode, search history, S3 support, and a whole lot more.
Usage Stats: Now you can see exactly how you’re using Karakeep and how many bookmarks you’ve collected. Here’s a peek at my stats (though I’m sure some of you have me beat!):
Reader Mode: Inspired by Linkwarden’s recent update, we’ve completely redesigned our reader mode for a cleaner, more enjoyable reading experience. Check it out:
Search History: The search bar now suggests previous searches, making it even faster to find what you’re looking for.
User Management: We’ve added a bunch of new user management options, including email verification, password recovery, account deletion, per-user quotas, and a user invitation system. The sign-in and sign-up pages also got a refresh.
Server Management: For those running their own Karakeep instance, we’ve added optional S3 storage for assets, Prometheus integration, API rate limits, and WAL mode for the database.
Even More Improvements
- Better banners for Reddit posts
- Official proxy support
- More flexible JSON parsing for LLM responses
- Fixes for inference and crawler worker issues
- Migration to Playwright for improved stealth mode
A Look Ahead
This release also marks the start of a private beta for a managed Karakeep service. Karakeep will always be self-hosting first. But we also want to make it easy for people who aren’t comfortable with self-hosting, especially after Pocket shutting down. If it works out, it could also help fund future development.
We hope you love this new release! Let us know what you think.
